I have linked the yahoo mail string that got us to this point. The original post is that of Shiraz [karunaratne] and the comments are the responses. Please do not add any more comments to this string. It is meant to give you a background to the proposed event.

*****

Hi Gentlemen,

Hope you are all doing well – what news of the 82 Group 25 year re-union – I heard some news awhile back that we were planning a major do -wives, mistresses, mattresses and all welcome – is this still on and have you guys fixed a date – if so could you send me the details. I trust it will be around the time of the Bradby as if all goes well a few of us are planning to come down and partake of the celebrations(I need a really drunk night with the boys badly – so keep those livers primed).

Please give our best to the wives and a hug and kiss to the kids.

Cheers

shiraz
cc to several other 82 gentelmen in my addressbook

thank you for bringing this up. in fact i spoke with yc two days back (the boys is back on his feet now…) and also with sujit and fonny a few weeks ago in atlanta. the discussion is alive in colombo…

this is the plan:
1. we need to set up a committee with participation from colombo and other cities around the world where we have siginificant alumni. please feel free to volunteer yourselves and also find others for the committee (particularly those with a good marketing background!!)

2. this committee then needs to plan the activity; one will be the colombo-leg related pothola-wetakolu scene, but the other more important event will be the gala dinner dance during the christmas holidays when everyone will be in town (my original thinking to have it during the bradby has been over-ruled as the bradby itself has been brough forward by many months)

3. besides the event we also need to think what we could/should do to school. given chulaka and sriyan are intimately involved in cricket and rugby respectively, they may have some input; not forgeting academics of course…

4. yc: hope you can do a nice email and send it to the 82 list indicating that we are planning to do this, so we can prime them to it. chocho needs to call for an AGM soon and get the ball rolling please

cheers
harsha

I just jumped on the band wagon…. Looks like Harsha and Shiraz are running with this. It sounds like a good plan though.

5. Yi-Chuien Hsu - April 4, 2007

Dear Committee Members,

An emergency meeting has been called to address the following issues:

1. A donation of Rs.1000/- per committee member to finance the Stagnite Hall

2. The finalising of an early date for the AGM which is overdue.

3. The 25th Anniversary Celebrations

4. To finalise payment to Rukshan for supplying a cupboard to Royal Rugby
requested Sriyan Cooray for which 4 donors have confirmed. More required.

5. To appoint and support a group member for the RCU post of Secretary. Atty has been a
unanimous choice.

The venue is the Orient Club 06pm tomorrow 05th April 2007. To be signed in by Ashan.

Please be present as the Group seems to be crumbling and falling apart. This is tragic. Your support is imperative and indispensable.

Thank you.

Cheers

Hi Sari – good to hear from you after so long – heard all the way here in Kiwi land about your hangover after the Royal-Thomian thrashing.Don’t know if Chula’s address is in the many you added on – but I told Molli he can come and apply for asylum here anytime – since Greg Chappell has applied for asylum in Sir lanka after the Indians left the World cup there is no shame in this – can arrange through the Red Cross.

Harsha – we were hoping it would be during the Bradby as then people who come down can go for the game as well – Christmas is generally a very busy time socially and also with families. If as you say the Bradby has been brought forward then I suggest we have it to coincide with next years Royal-Thomian(which if hopefully Chula is still coaching knowing the man we will definitely win) – just a suggestion.
As per helping with the organizing or more so co-ordinating as per usual you can definitely count on my help – if it is organizing the Stag you know that is where my natural talent lies in getting the strippers and hookers – this is easy all I have to do is borrow Sari’s little black book and we are done – but seriously if I can help please let me know(we have loads of sheep here instead of stripping we could have a sheep shearing show-same difference) – all we will need to do is set-up Skype at where ever you guys are meeting and all of us all over the world can crack open a beer and join in the creative thinking which as we all know from past 82 Group meetings improves with each can.

I have added a host more e-mails – let’s hope we can get something going.

Cheers

Yo my bruddah from anuddah muddah….. Good to hear from you.
Son of a b***ch. What a hangover that was. Thought divorce number 2 was on the cards. Stayed drunk from Tuesday to Sunday. Was hung-over till Wednesday.
We’ll leave the sheep shagging to you folks in Kiwi land, and set our sights on some good old fashioned ‘poontang’…
Any bloody day is a good day, so can we have some options, decide quick and get on with it???
good to have you all on board. Algama???? You psychotic sob, where have you been all my life???

8. kassapa saparamadu - April 4, 2007

Machung Silva,

We are having a meeting tomorrow. The venue will be notified to you in a little while. China-man is working on it. We should discuss these little things tomorrow. I think China-man will be the best guy to do this. He did it last time too.

The day is fixed for the night and the women’s international is already booked. Regards

the 82 reunion group grew from 5 to 50 in 5 minutes! amazing!! unless we get a hold on the admin of this group it will become unweilding and people will loose interest with the mail going to bulk/spam folders…

1. can we set up a mail group of some sort? please can someone who knows how to do it set it up using the adresses herein?

2. i suggest we have an initial planning meeting at the SSC on either tuesday 17, wednesday 18 or thursday 19 april evening to get a handle on the date (shiraz has suggested alternative) can we have some confirmations (date and time) please?

cheers

Hi Boyz,

I have already planned to come down to Colombo in Aug/Sep especially for our Group get-together.
As I see that its our 25th anniversary, you guys must organise some souvenirs such as T’shirts, hats, Mugs or whatever that can be a great memorablia.
Also I suggest that an issue of a directory of our group is ideal.
Theres hardly any physical help that I can give you guys from here, all I can do is suggest few things to make it a success.

Now I need a big favour from you. I NEED THE EXACT DATES. ( or approximate)

I have to organise my leave and do my travel arrangments.
I hope you guys understand that I have to come from down under and I cant organise my things overnight.

I hope one of you will respond to my e-mail

21. Rowan - April 5, 2007

Ado Harsha, remember me? We were neighbours across the railway line for many years!!! Machang, plan something quickly and lock in dates. Those of us not lucky enough to live there need some planning and arranging time (ps. make up lies to the wives etc) Can I suggest you donā€™t plan too much ā€“ I donā€™t think the place or the activities mean muchā€¦..getting together in one place is the only thing that matters.
Cheers

Great idea Chula – let the committee come up with some options and let’s have a quick vote – keep the voting open for a week and Hsu(are you still the Secretary of the Group-I think you should have this position for life) can then co-ordinate.

34. Shiraz Karunaratne - April 7, 2007

Hi Guys!

I think we need to clarify a few things here – We are talking about
two events here – Boys in Colombo correct me if I am wrong with
dates/timing and most importantly interpretation of the plan.

1.Annual Batch Stag nite – which this year will be a special event as
it is our 25th (from the “Tit” bits I have heard so far there are a few
extras planned) – which will be held as per tradition on the night of
the Colombo Bradby.

2.Grand celebration Dinner/Dance (including wives, mistresses, concubines and gay lovers) – if I am correct we are going to vote on the date of this event.

I think a lot of the guys especially those who live overseas think the
grand celebration I brought up in my original mail was a Stag night but
this celebration was to be an all inclusive Dinner/Dance. Since a lot
of guys who live overseas would love to have a Stag as well – I suggest as
we are not having the Dinner/Dance at Bradby time – we continue the
tradition of the annual Stag(on Bradby night) and then whenever we
decide on this dinner/Dance we also organize a Stag at that time
depending on the participation from overseas – and we have this Stag
the weekend before the Dinner/Dance so everyone can hug,catch-up,hump
their long lost friends and at the Dance it will be a more family affair(most
of us are in our early 40’s and as we are not Thomians have a female
partner – those of you without a female partner I can bring you a nice
white fluffy one from Kiwi land) so a wife included function would be
in order.

What prompted me to get this clarification was that I saw a lot of
comments like need to plan my leave from both office and wife
etc. Please do not get me wrong I am all for the Stag but this time around I think
we should have both.

Over to you – Harsha/Chocho/Hsu…..

Cheers
Shiraz Karu.

Machang Gihan
Would you be interested in moderating from the U.K. ? Like Harsha, I am not sure what moderating this group entails either!! I am sure we will figure it out in the next few days. Maybe Liu can give us some direction? I am trying to think of our other batch mates in the U.K. and can only come up with Shameil Dawood and Kanishka Ambanpola. Maybe you know of others?

Thanks
Sujit

36. shoua - April 7, 2007

Ado Shiraz,

Moderator is a person who can do the following ;
Last listed previlege is very important…

-Approve pending messages and photos
-Approve pending members
-Invite and add members
-Remove members and reset bouncing members
-Ban members
-Add, remove, and change moderator privileges
-Gives the moderator to make members moderators or
to change the privileges of existing moderators.
-Gives the moderator the power to change settings
for the groups. Another very important power that
should be granted carefully.
-Delete this group
-A very important power that should be granted only to
people you trust.

Dear Batchmates (e-mail group)

Voting is bound to cough up a multitude of dates. The usual stag will be staged as usual with a bit more fire and fizz on 23rd June.

As suggested by Shiraz the main even would be a dinner dance with wives, mistresses, gay partners or even animal partners. It is very obvious that some of our more youthful batch members from overseas may want a stagnite where they can let their hair down or their bushes out too. That too may be arranged as a special 25 year supplement.

There is a lot of interest by the boys overseas and we do not want this very special year to pass us by and then discover that virility issues are the new plague and not just blank shots or pus vedi. However these functions are costly and we are looking forward to many contributions from the group members to make these events a roaring success even if you may not be able to make it. Unfortunately only pictures of the dinner dance may be posted on Liu’s group page.

Boys please be part of this huge event even those who have adopted the role of old f a r t s. Gerard Victoria please make a note of that.

Cheers

Yi-Chuien

liu, shiraz,sujit, yc

given what seems like firewall issues with yahoo groups i was wondering if we should shift the whole operation on to a blog with the same moderators?

that way no one will be bombarded with emails, but can check the blog on a daily basis to update. we can have voting and all other facilities there as well i hope.

what say you?

harsha

39. shoua - April 7, 2007

Do not have any experince creating any Blog sites.

Yahoo and google both have free blogs, 2GB space.

I know Shiraz will ask the question, what is a blog?
No it’s not a place you take a dump but a place you
spill your crap verbally…

Here’s a definition from goggles;

A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A
collaborative space. A political soapbox. A
breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own
private thoughts. Memos to the world.

Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are
millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there
are no real rules.

In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write
stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the
top, so your visitors can read what’s new. Then they
comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not.

Since Blogger was launched, almost five years ago,
blogs have reshaped the web, impacted politics, shaken
up journalism, and enabled millions of people to have
a voice and connect with others.

40. kassapa saparamadu - April 7, 2007

Hi Machung,

In fact we talked in detail about the stag night and then about the year end dance. That we will have to plan and do some thing big. Any way for the stag too we will have some extras this time. I will be stepping down from the presidency and we are planing to appoint Boo. Rukshan will be removed from the Secretary slot and we are putting the China man. All the others will continue. Will keep you guys informed on all the developments.

Regards

ChoCho

41. kassapa saparamadu - April 7, 2007

Machung Karu,

The stag will go on as planned. As you know already there will be few extras. We have been adding these extras every year and some extras you have to work and get the benefits. Our good friend Chinamas is making a big fuss because he is not getting any of these. Hard luck. I told the fellow he will have to change his style. I hope he will do that at least this time.

The dance you got give us little time. This we have to plan and do it. If you were here it would have been done with out problem. Any way we will work out some thing. Please hold on.

Regards

ChoCho

42. harshadesilva - April 8, 2007

all: organizing a dance of the magnitude we are considering is going to be very complicated; particularly if we want to raise funds too. we will have to depend on our batchmates who are doing well (both here and overseas) to come forward with sponsorships etc. immediately a long list appears in my mind and my initial thoughts of complexity is dissapearing fast! we also need to get some keepsake of sorts done too; ideally a book, group photo? i dont know…

but first of all, we need to decide on a date and reserve a ballroom and a band!

based on responses from several memebers it appeasr that the best date and time for the
first planning meeting is TUESDAY 17 APRIL at 6:30pm at SSC.

please make every attempt to be there so we can setup a committee to make this a huge success.

harsha

43. kassapa saparamadu - April 8, 2007

Machung Silva,

It’s not a small thing. Organizing a stag is lot of work. I have done this many times and it is not possible for us to organize the dance. What I suggest is to get hold of an event organizer and hand over the matter to him. If not few fellows will be left with all the work. This is certainly too much for us at this age.

Firstly we have to plan on a date. We did thought of a date in December. But the problem is December will be a very busy time for the hotels. Any way we have to do it some how. As mentioned before we will discuss this matter in detail at the GAM. Some how we have to get as many members as possible for the AGM. Every one should spread the message around and please make sure that you are there.

Machung Silva I do not know whether 17th of April will be a ok date for a meeting. With the New Year and so many long holidays coming up it might be a problem. Any way let me talk to some of the others also and see what we could do.

we cannot wait until the AGM to get the ball rolling
on the dinner dance. i know it is going to be a huge
task and that is very much more the reason we need to
start right away. giving it out to an event organizing
setup is fine; i got no issues with it, but we need to
get going…

let us all meet on the 17th (many have confirmed) and
have the ground work done so at the AGM we can get
confirmations from the general membership.

ALL ABLE PERSONS ARE WELCOME and ENCOURAGED to JOIN

Machung Silva,

I had a long talk with Pinnapola. He too will be there on the 17th. I thought he is still at the Earls Regency. Now he is the operations manager for all the AitkenSpence hotels. He operate from Colombo. He is doing all the event organizing too. He will come with some costings on the 17th. Then we will know exactly were we stand.

kassapa saparamadu wrote:
Machung Silva,

Ok We will have the meeting on the 17th. Pleas try to get hold of an event organizer too. So that we will have an idea about what to do and also an indication about the cost factor. So that we could make arrangements. From this meeting we should be able to know the cost specially. This is the single most important factor. We have done the stag night so many times and I know how much it cost. This will be a huge amount and we will have to find a way out.

Please ask Deviyani whether she knows any one who do events. I am sure she must be knowing people who are in the business. I have already talked to Pinnapola. He said he will help too. He knows the suggest quite well because he is in the business. I too will ask Pinna to find an organizer. I will ask him also to be there. Then we will have an idea.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the information. I will meet you guys on the 17th at the meeting. Since I am from the hotel industry definitely I can help on this matter. As agreed I will prepare a forecasted budget and a tentative event plan .

There are many event organizers in town whom I know handle such events. However it will be expensive to use event organizers as they will have around 25% of the total cost as their commission. But its very easy to hand over the entire thing to a company so we have less work. However with our financial background can we do that? Anyway I will try to contact couple of my friends , event organizers and get some ideas.

I can handle the event on behalf of the group, but we need a strong committed committee as I am stuck with studies ,reading for my Masters these days. Lets take a decision when we meet .

When I come on the 17th I will try to get some clips on few dances we have done for you to get an idea.

Hey – I am not that out of date – I can see you IT nerd is just loving
this whole blogging thing – but saying that just because I have heard
of a blog does not mean I have ever accessed one or would know how to do so – I do have a life without blogging or bogging(which is more
appropriate).

to believe that you will be probing many feminine bog chambers which may lead to your confusion of blogging. The “l” derived from p”l”ugging.

53. shiraz Karunaratne - April 11, 2007

Hi !

The idea of an event organizer is great but also boosts your costs by about 25%. I have served on many a Royal College dance committee and it is not an impossible or difficult task. With Mahinda Pinnapola available to give professional advise I am sure the committee can pull it off. If the committee feels they need some help I can ask Nishantha who has been the Chairman of the Royal dance committee for about 4 or 5 years to come and give us a hand – in the initial stages in pointing you guys in the right direction – especially in making sure that all areas are covered. If I remember correct we had a template we used to follow and we would just tick off as we went.
Either way it will not hurt to get a quote from an event organizer as well – the guys who come to mind are Sathy Watson, Roshan( do not remember his surname but can get his contact details), Kevin Francke he used to run an events company but now works full time for Dialog-they were his biggest client ( but I am sure he may take this on as a side project) and Imran Pakeersaibo(not sure if this is how you spell his last name) – all the guys know me fairly well – both personally and have done various Royal College functions like the main Stag and Dance etc where we hired equipment from them.
Let me know if you need any help in contacting these guys or if you would like Nishantha to come and help organize the event in the initial stages – actually offer him X rupees as a payment(always better to offer to pay at least for transport/petrol then there is no obligation) like a project manager and he will be able to do the whole thing – this might be a cheaper option than an actual event organizer.

Hi folks, accidentally found the blog and was delighted to see the names of so many of the batch mates. Too bad I missed the re-union. Will be there for the next for sure!
