The 25th anniversary celebrations at the Waters Edge was nothing short of spectacular. It was more than words could ever describe. Many a fertile imagination would not be able to work out the absolute splendour of the event.

Congratulations to the entire dance committee and the editors of the book in setting a bench mark for all future generations of old Royalists.

It was a job well planned and executed to perfection and beyond.

Cheers

Guess you have now recovered from the hangover, It was a brilliant dance and more than successful. Almost all the batch mates came up to me and thanked the dance committee endlessly for organizing such a great event.

This was some thing I always wanted and for me more memorable than all the 20 odd stag nights put together, even though these too are much needed. Virtualy I now miss the fact its all over with only a great memory to be treasured.

I thank everyone who made this event a reality. Great show.

Boys this was great. Simply it could not have been any better than this. Every thing was perfect with a class not shown in the past in any event of Royal. At least the once that I have been to. The cocktail, music, dinner and not to forget the drinks.

Where ever I went all forced to have a drink with them and it did not take long for me to get high, but that spirit cannot be explained. Some of them I met after many years and it was so nice to see them. I saw Kukul Charley after 25 years. The fellow has not changed a bit.

PJ , Sujith and David you three have done nothing but a Masterpiece. I am so happy that I managed to put in few stories. I guess these will be remembered for the rest of our lives.

I will take this chance to thank every one who helped the event. It was a team work from day one and all did their part to make things happen. Special thanks should go to the President, Chairman and Sarinda for pulling most of the work.

Jeggar is there any possibility in adding some of the pictures to the site. I am sure the once who could not take part would love to see some of the pictures.

Regards

ChoCho

12. Jack - December 31, 2007

Dear Harsha,

‘Hats Off’ to you and your team!

Although my landing gear and nose wheel is 43 years old, things were fine in the cockpit and I manged to do a belly landing at 05 : 00 Hrs ofcourse with a full tank of fuel which helped to glide in beautifully.

Thanks to you all you guys.

Jack Idroos (AKA Koss).

13. Sarinda Unamboowe - December 31, 2007

HOOOOOO HAAAAAAAAA……………………………
Guess we can all be proud of the ‘event’. the feedback was great, everyone I met was full of compliments and more than all of that, I think each one of us had a blast. Those of you who werent there, you guys missed one hell of a party. The old buggers can still rock
What made the event special for me was to see so many poeple who had flown down for the occasion. Some of whome we had not seen on over 25 years.
The ‘Stars of 82’ proved that we are one of the best all round batches the school has ever produced.
Now….. we have to do something special for the school in return.
Let me make a suggestion that we start a fund using the profits from the dance. We make that the base contribution towards something truly special. Like completely refurbishing the College Hall, or some project that would benefit all Royalists. We should adopt a project and make it work for us. We can raise more funds along the way, but we need something great from our group. Not just a check for some dickhead in the Union to spend as he feels fit.
To start with boys, we have 150 Books left at Rs 2500 a piece.
PLease buy these fast. Those of you who havent seen it,…… it’s fucking brilliant. It will open your eyes to what the TOTAL ROYAL EXPERIENCE was all about. Not just your little corner of it….
Chairman Harsha, you did a great job.. we are proud to have helped in any little way. Now les take this to the next level.
May I suggest we appoint the Future Governer of the Central Bank, Dr Harsha De Silva, the head of the Star Group of 82 RC development Fund. I volunteer to help with the fund raising. Lets see the others join us now… lets keep this going boys.

14. Sarinda Unamboowe - December 31, 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY…………………………:)

hOPE WE CONTINUE THE GOOD WORK STARTED.

15. Riza Ahamat - December 31, 2007

To Harsha and Team. Thanks for a great show, It was indeed refreshing to see many of our collegues who generally dont turn up at our stag nights,
It would be great if we can have some of the photos on this site for the benifit of our overseas collegues

PJ. Sujith and Krelli, Brilliantly done. Lets hope our sons dont get caught doing the same unthinkable things we did during our period in college, Lets get the remaining books sold

Cheers
Riza

The 25th anniversary celebrations at the Waters Edge was nothing short of spectacular. It was more than words could ever describe. Many a fertile imagination would not be able to work out the absolute splendour of the event.

It was not merely spellbinding, IT WAS EVERYTHING VOCABULARY COULD AND COULDN’T DESCRIBE!!!!

THE BEST EVENT FOR ME THUS FAR. IT WILL HAVE TO BE THE OLYMPICS THAT COMES CLOSE. NEVER THE FEELING THOUGH. THE FEELING WAS FABULOUSLY ECSTATIC.

Congratulations to the entire dance committee and the editors of the book in setting a bench mark for all future generations of old Royalists.

It was a fantastic job well planned and executed to perfection and beyond.

I believe these boys could make Sri Lanka a first world country in no time if this team got into politics together on the same side.

Cheers

17. Sudarshana S. Jayatillaka - December 31, 2007

Great show! Everything was just brilliant. A big thank you, to the committee. Can we post some photos for the benefit of the guys who couldn’t make it and missed a chance of a lifetime?

18. kassapa Saparamadu - December 31, 2007

Jack, I like your style. Machunag Jayathilaka please email them to PJ. We will plann and do some thing about it so that the others will see it too.

19. Rohantha Jayasuriya - December 31, 2007

Harsha and the team, it was brilliant allround and well worth the trip!! I think we should meet every five years from now with a gala event to celebrate each landmark anniversary (and keep up with receding hairlines!) Keep up the good work and I support sarinda’s idea of a fund or somesuch to do something significant.

20. Feroz Omar - January 1, 2008

It certainly was an event with class and finesse that I have not seen before. I full endorse Yi-Chuien’s sentiments.

A Happy and Prosperous New Year to all of you.

HI GENTLEMEN,

AFTER MANY MONTHS OF HARDWORK THE END RESULT WAS OF GREAT SIGNIFICANCE.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR EFFORTS.

24. Malik Samarasinghe - January 2, 2008

‘The greatest show on earth’ is an understatement. However as there is nothing greater than the greatest what more could I say?

The book, brilliantly done, brought back memories that had sunk into recesses of my mind that I was unaware of.

Thanks to all you gentlemen who were responsible for this.

25. Pradeep Jeganathan - January 3, 2008

I’ve sold 17 books since the Dance!

26. Pradeep Jeganathan - January 3, 2008

We have received from Priyan Attygalle (got the spelling right this time!) a very generous (personal) cheque towards the production cost of the book, which ensures that we will not loose any money in this venture.

It is a right Royal gesture, Priyan and we all appreciate it deeply.

I really also want to thank every one, who has come up to me, and said some thing about the book. Its wonderful that a lot of it is positive, and I’m really on a high that the team, Sujit, Krelly and I managed to meet your expectations.

At the same time, I do know there are some short comings in the book — and I take full responsibility for them.
Next time around, and the group will do another book, before we are dead and gone, I’m sure — it will be even better!

27. harshadesilva - January 3, 2008

apparently there is a nice photo of the book launch in today’s [3 jan] island, page 3. can someone post it on the blog? pj?

Machung Silva,

Better if we send an email around saying the book is available with Sujith and Fonny in the us. So that interested parties could get in touch with them and buy one. Also better if we publish their email addresses.

Who is doing the same in UK and in Australia. Better if we post their contact details too.

34. Punu Wijayaratne - January 5, 2008

Dear Harsha,
I’m very jealous to see all the wonderful comments of the great event.I really like Rohantha’s

So Harsha please reserve a souvenir for me and if there are DVD’s available please be good enough to get one for me.
Also I appreciate if you can mail this to me &send email about the expenses.

36. Mahinda Pinnapolage - January 7, 2008

Hi Friends,
Its wondeful to see super comments about tha dance. The credit mainly should go to thethree leaders who keopt the team together . Harsha, Sari, Arty.
It was always a tough task to get a team together from one batch and same age group.

I think the ” Stars of 82 ” is a great , unbeatable batch , cansidering the fact that after 25yrs we had such a grand participation. hats off to all of you.
I also agree that we do this every 5 years.

Food for thought. Can we do a smaller scale gathering at the big match . Mr President we can easily get about 100 guys together. This will give a good exposure to us for three days.

37. S.Y.Liu - January 10, 2008

Still recovering from all the drinking…
Awesome show, I am speechless. Well wroth my trip to the greatest re-union of all man kind. Congratulations and thanks for a job well done. What an opportunity to meet all you guy’s. Let’s do it again in 5 years.

Punu, I have a book for you I will call you for a chat.

38. Sumudu Gunaratne - January 21, 2008

Sounds like a fantastic dance and damn it ! I couldn’t bloody make it 😦 However, got a copy of the Souvenir and I have to say it is fabulous and I guess, a brilliant read for ‘life time’ Very Many Thanks to all those who were involved.

cheers,
Sumudu

39. Shiraz Karunaratne - January 21, 2008

Just got back from one hell of a trip to Colombo and I must say the highlight was definitely the dance.

I jumped in and attended the last couple of meetings(to put in my two cents and make me feel like I belonged) and guys I have been involved with organizing quite a few Royal dances but the attention to detail and the work that these guys put in was amazing.

The batch dance was easily the best dance I have been to in my life -the organization, the concept, the papare at the entrance, the sax player and the cocktails in the foyer, the bands, the decor(Suresh Ratnasinghe did an awesome job), the ample booze on each table – man I can go on for ever.

The fact that we all knew 80% of the people who attended made it even more special.

The fact that we did not have a single banner in the hall made the decor so much nicer and the event even more classier – the generosity of our main sponsors all batch mates namely Feroz of Brandix,Jeevs of Mobitel and Dumindra of Tigo and all the other guys who gave in cash and kind helped make the event a success (hope they are all ready to chip in again in 5 years).

The committee needs a huge pat on their backs – Harsha probably added a few more grey hairs and pulled out tufts of them dealing with the whole committee and the issues but with guys like Mahinda Pinnapolage sharing his expertise,Suresh and his decor etc(do not forget the teacher and the kind girls who pinned the badges on us – made me want to spend the whole evening in the foyer) Sari and his fundraising,Vicky last minutes having to change all the gifts etc – actually the whole bunch made his job easier and enjoyable – the team spirit and camaraderie in the committee was great.

The Book was awesome – man the other batches and also the future committees of our batch will have a hard act to follow.

But the best fact as Sari said before was the boys were out to play and man did we play right upto 5.30 in the morning and the dance floor was rocking till the end – not just the boys but our wives had a blast – my wife thought it was her re-union.

We were all flying but luckily no one was smashed – it was a right Royal ball to put it mildly.

You guys who missed it better start planning for the next one in 5 years – start saving the leave, put away a dollar towards the ticket but make sure that you bring the wife – it is not a stag and that is what made it so grand.

What a night … what a night …………
