25 Reunion

Please go to last meeting updates page for the current discussion!

Please go to table plan to reserve your table!!

——————————————————————————–

It is 25 long years since we left College! Organizing a reunion to celebrate 25 years of putting to use what we “learnt of books and learnt of men” seems not only nice, but most appropriate!

In fact, some of us had been discussing this for six months or so, but a sudden email from Shiraz [Karunaratne] on 4 April, finally got the ball rolling. The mail group expanded from 5 to 50 in a matter of few minutes. The enthusiasm of our Group of 82 seems like a perpetual spring; in more ways then one!

The many proposals that have been e-flying around have converged and the plan is to have a ‘big do’ sometime this year. Not our typical ‘wetakolu-brinjal’ show [which will anyway be held on the due date as always], but a gala event with wives, mistresses, escorts, gay lovers etc. Ideally a dinner-dance at a nice ballroom with a super band and all…

Besides the fun we are seriously considering giving back to College. Now that Chulaka [Amarasinghe] and Sriyan [Cooray] are seriously involved in College cricket and rugby respectively, there may be opportunities for us to contribute there. College keeps breaking academic records as well, as most of us are aware; further support there is also a possibility. Last but not least we have lost a number of our 82 Group members in the recent past [as well as over the years]. The most recent being Sisila Ratnayake in March 2007 and Sujeewa Kudahetti in December 2004. There are moves to see if and how we could perhaps support the education of their children…

We have called for a planning meeting on Tuesday 17 April at 6:30pm at SSC to form a committee to handle the event. Mahinda Pinnapola our in-group expert who now manages such things for Aitken Spence has come forward to help plan the logistics. Shiraz has also offered to share his expereince gained over the last 25 years of organizing with Shantha!

If you are in Colombo, please come for the 17th meeting and join the committee; if overseas or unable to come on the 17th, please follow this blog and post your comments so we can get a fix on ‘what and when’ fairly quickly so that many of our members overseas can plan on flying down for this gala event!

Today is 13 April 2007. An almost comprehensive list of mail exchanges on the subject up to today is contained in the “past mail string” page on this blog.

Please do not post any more comments there; instead do it here! Just type in whatever you want to say and hit ‘say it’.

Cheers
Harsha

Machung Silva,

I have told lot of people to be there. I hope all will show up for the first meeting. Pinna will have to do a big role in this. He will also bring some details of some dances that he has done in the past. I think that will help us a lot.

Guys
Harsha made a very valuable point re. exploring whether we as a Group can do anything to assist the education of our class-mates who are no longer with us (Sisila Ratnayake and Sujeeva Kudahetty immediately come to mind). I think during the mirth and merriment (and between humping wives, mistresses, gay lovers, mattresses, a friendly chook etc.), this should be an important objective as well.

If necessary, I am willing to spearhead an effort to get this going, if someone in Sri Lanka can get me more information on what might be needed/appropriate at this time. I know Manjula Agalawatta was in close contact with Sisila so maybe he can contact Sisila’s family. I am not sure who was in contact with Sujeeva’s family.

Thanks
Sujit
