Memories & the 25th Anv. Souvenir
We need to short articles or even one paragraph reminiscences/recollections for the souvenir. We thought, going back to the grade one registers might help trigger off memories. Harsha and I, with the very kind help of Mrs. Indrani Pieris-Seveviratne (who many of you will remember from our college years, and is our class mate Arjuna’s mother), have obtained photocopies of the 1970 grade one registers. They were so fun to read that I’m scanning what I can in here.
This was, as I recall, Sujit Canageratne’s idea — and really, you are a star for thinking of this! To bad we can not put you to work, old fellow 🙂
Take a look. If this helps you remember some thing, please add it below. On the 30th, Harsha and I will go over the admission records from 1970 -76, to add the names of boys who joined Royal Junior between grade 2 and grade 7.
We have also found the 1979 OL results register. So this way, we will have all the grade 6 Royal College boys also. It makes great reading; junior and college boys together. Some famous people’s, results are so interesting! Mahinda A, are you there?
We need access to a large size photocopier, for an hour on a week day morning next, by the way.
Mrs Seneviratne has to accompany the register. Can some one help with this — pickup/drop from Royal Junior, and quick easy access to free, large format photocopier, with office worker? Call me on 077 773 8626.
Jega, This is amazing. Machung I still remember the 1-A class. We used to sit under the kottang tree near the long jump pit, till we get picked up from home. Your mother used to come in light green A- 35 car. Am I correct? I still remember some of the cars that used to come to pick us up. Harsha your dad had a black Austin. I do not know what you call that model. Indumini had a Wolesley. (Kassapa)
I accidentally deleted this the entire page, when trying to update it. comments will be reposted, under my name — so sorry

3. Pradeep Jeganathan – August 24, 2007[Edit]
Yeah, that’s an error in the photo copy. We will have to have that page re-copied on the 30th, if possible.

I am indeed grateful for the long awaited acknowledgement of the famous original “Royalist” argument. Your admission “those of us who joined RC directly” is simply superb.
Good work from both you PhD boys. Thanks for the wonderful effort in expanding the group.
All the pages are have been added; I think we are still missing the last page; will check on this.
Any one can give us access to a large format photocopier on the 30 th Aug, Thursday — please? This is the only way to photocopy the OL list, so that we have the amalgamated class list.?
If any one would like to help, any where in the world, please type out — or have a nice girl who work for you, type out — the Sinhala names into a spread sheet in English, and mail it to me. We are going work out the names of the boys who joined, between 1971-1978, with the year of entry on the 30th — and then, it would be nice to have english, soft copy, class by class lists, we can work with.
Enjoy!
Okay — next thought.
I’m adding sub-pages for memories. The first one is 1A-2C (is that right?)-3C-4D. See, that is one batch of guys.
If you start with 1B it is another. Please fill these in. And I will add subpages. Then lets add what we remember and move on to like 5F-6A-7-8 then 9s4 & 10s4.
I hope this makes sense. I will cut and paste stuff that’s already been written, in the sub-pages.
I added a comment Priyantha made some time ago, to the 1C page. By the way, the names on these lists are not in the english or sinhala alphabet. I think they follow the logic area rule of admissions, so it is by the distance of your address to the collage gate. so its funny. 🙂
Machang Jega
I am so glad that you and Harsha worked on this project with Mrs. Seneviratne. Please say hello to her from me. She was my A level English (Jack, do you remember George Elliot’s guinea-ass?) teacher and is a wonderful person. I look forward to seeing her in Dec. Another suggestion: what about our teachers to the event on the 28th? Maybe they can sit at the Principal’s table? We can sponsor their tickets.
I think the names on these registries will really bring back memories. They sure have for me. If I were in SL now, I would followed up on my suggestion re. incorporating the names from the register into our souvenir and secured the information. But, since I am not, Jega and Harsha, I owe you both at least 3 rounds of drinks!! Thanks for your efforts, guys.
Sujit
Yes, we need to talk about inviting teachers. Good point.
Sujit, you can get an extra bottle for us at the dance. But seriously was all your idea, and it was Harsha to really made it happen.
Have mailed you back on the article situ.
this is clearly an amazing team effort. i have no doubt we will make both the dance and the book success stories!
btw, sari is very busy raising funds. dont be surprised if the bugger makes a joke of my target to him of lkr 1m!
Ado… go easy on the pressure of fund raising. I have had enough pressure to last me about 2 lifetimes… 🙂
Will be back next week, so back to the fund raising effort.
S
Atty said he has spoken to some guys and there is a possibility of getting some support. This would be small amounts. Siva please follows it up with the guy. He has com back from Europe today.
This is totally kewl Pradeep! Congrats to you, sujit and Harsha.
Hi Folks
We are on a a charge…. We have raise over 2m, and we are still ticking. The more we get, the more meaningful our contribution to the school can be. So dig deep folks, use all your contacts and pl get us more money. With the Mahinda Chintana inflation factored in, our target of 1m has now got to move to 4m.
Lets go for it.
Thanks
sarinda
hey PJ,
There is a K. Udayakumar in the register.(Tamil medium class)
RCU secratary is also Udayakumar. Are they related or the same person.
Priyantha
Bloody hell, this is amazing work by all of you. I wish, I was there to support this, but I’m here in London ‘scraping coconuts’. Malalaley is also round-the-corner from me, but I see a couple of X’mas’s before I see him!!
I only ‘f”d around from 70-82 (what a waste of time), however, the good stars have been on my side, so I’m content with life at mo with my very loving and supportive wife Arosha, son Dileepa (17+) ,daughter Surini (16+) & Kolla (8) -the lovely family Beagle.
I truly love to come for this event and I have a ‘one way’ ticket on Etihad at the mo and the bloody airline have stopped flying there altogether! I can’t afford to get stranded in S/L. Any ideas from chaps in the travel trade?
Pls let me know if there is anything that I can do from this end…
Best regards to all you lovely, lovely guys.
Ruwan Ranawake (Raney)

Dear Sarinda,

Thx punu for coming out with the list.
Sumudu,
Hopefully you included the junior side Snr. prefects too in your article.
Priyantha
Priyantha,
Not too sure what’d you mean by ‘Junior Side Snr Prefects…’ ? The write up was about ’82 Group Scouting…. and not about Snr Prefects!
Sumudu
HI Guys !
Just this morning that I had time to get on to these pages & I am amazed at the stuff that has been going on. Many thanks all you guys who have done a fantastic job. I knew about the reunion form Dumi some time ago & conefirmed my attendence but never got down to looking at this page. Anyway I know its a bit late in the day, but do let me know by email if there is any way I can assist or contribute.
Long live Group of 82 !
Cheers.
Nishad.
Everyone
I only heard about the reunion a couple of weeks ago, and about the blog only today. Excellent work by everybody involved – quite amazing!
Is there anything I can do in the final run up? Please don’t hesitate to ask – it will be a privilege to help in any small way. Given the amount of effort that has gone into arranging the event and all the associated stuff, I shall do my utmost to re-schedule the family holiday itinerary so that I can be in Colombo that evening.
Saddenned to read the list of school-mates who have given their lives in service and otherwise no longer with us.
Regards to all batch-mates
Shameil
Sumudu,
what I meant was scouts from the junior side in your piece.
Talking abt. scouting I had a chance to visit the new scout room near the jnr school playground in june this yr and I was saddened by the fact that nobody had maintained the Pres. Scouts Board since 1992 after tusitha waas left.
Since Rohan Weerasekara is the Master in charge and 42nd CMB is the biggest scout troop in the country, you need the use your influence to get that board updated and displayed at an appropriate place.
Priyantha
Dear Friends
When the much awaited dance is nearing its date as the treasurer I thought of going around with my begging bowl to our international community. The idea is to enhance our group finances by requesting those who are not coming for the event to give a generous contribution to show their solidarity to the group. The amount does”nt matter.consider giving your helping hand.our HSBC current account number is 001-221001-001.my address is
